How do you like to drink matcha? In a latte? Hot or iced?
Matcha is green tea that is grown under shade for 3 or 4 weeks before harvest. The result is increased chlorophyll and L-theanine for a sweet-savory, bright green, umami-rich result.
Choosing A Matcha
At Pureblend Tea we offer two amazing green matchas, Superior Grade Matcha and Ceremonial Grade Matcha and a Roasted Matcha. If you enjoy Matcha Latte, my recomendation is our Superior Grade Organic Matcha. Our Superior Grade Matcha has a pleasing earthy flavor with rich umani notes. The flavor holds up agianst milk and sweetner, creating a amzing latte. If you are a Matcha purist, our Ceremonial Grade Matcha is for you! This Japanese Matcha is delicate and bright. It offers floral flavors balanced with a natural sweetness. Our Orgnaic Roasted Matcha is rich, earthy and nutty with umami notes. It makes an outstanding Matcha Latte, especailly when lightly sweetened with brown sugar syrup.
Water Temperture
When making matcha, you do not want boiling water. For a hot latte, heat your water to 160-175F. If you are heating it in a sauce pan, you can estomate teh temperature when tiny bubbles start to form on the bottom of your pan. If you are making an iced matcha latte, use room temperture water.
Warm the Milk
Heating the milk to the correct temperature is crucial for a creamy and frothy matcha latte. Use a milk frother or warm the milk on the stove until it reaches around 150°F. For an iced matcha latte, use cold milk and whisk until foamy.
Whisk
When preparing the matcha, use a bamboo whisk to ensure a smooth and lump-free consistency. Add a small amount of water to the matcha powder and whisk to form a paste. Add more water until you reach your desired consistency and flavor, and continue whisking in a zig-zag motion until a frothy layer forms on top. We suggest using a matcha bowl for making matcha.
Build Your Matcha Latte
Hot: Fill your favorite mug three-quarters full with the warmed milk and add sweetener of your choice (optional). Top with your whisked matcha.
Iced: Fill your cup with ice, add milk and sweetener (optional), leaving room for your matcha. Top with your whisked matcha.
Sweetening Your Matcha Latte: You can always add more sweetener. Start with a little bit and add more to taste.
Enjoy Mindfully
Sip and savor your matcha latte slowly, taking in the earthy notes and creamy texture with each sip. Matcha is known for its calming properties, so take a moment to relax and enjoy the moment of indulgence. Even if you are in a hurry; stop, breathe and savor the first sip.
I did not include specific amounts on purpose. Everyone has differnt size mugs and cups. Are you filling your extra large to go cup or enjoying a small mug at the kitchen table? Adjust amounts based on what you like, size of your cup and strength of matcha you want.
