Choosing unrefined sea salt can help you consume more essential nutrients and less sodium.
Salt obtained from solar evaporation of seawater is entirely different from modern refined salt, and it contains a variety of minerals that play a role in keeping the body's electrolytes in a healthy balance.
The common table salt we use today is primarily kiln-dried sodium chloride with anti-caking agents added. Trace minerals, as well as calcium, magnesium and potassium salts are removed in processing. Kiln drying involves scorching salt at high heat to remove moisture. This process creates a product that is unnatural and hard on the body, a culprit that contributes to hypertension, heart trouble, kidney disease and eczema, among other problems.
